anarchy forever

It's official.

I. AM. GOING. TO. TOKYO!

Super duper psyched. Stocked. Omgithinkimmadiefromexcitement excited.
HAHA I think I might die from the anticipation.
I'm jetting off on Tuesday!
REALLY CAN'T WAIT.

Land of sushi, anime, gorgeous guys/girls, sashimi, cosplay, Ai Otsuka, vending machines, sony, nissan, takashimaya, basically every Japanese item that I have come into contact since young. JAPANJAPANJAPAN.

On the other hand, I am slightly apprehensive about going to Japan. Ultimately it is the country which you get The Ring, hentai, Yakuza and creepy whatnots. I can say to a certain extent that Japan creeps me out. AHAHA what am I worried about seriously. I don't know ...it's just..
Oh well, I have been bombarding myself with reading on Japan hoping to soothe my unfounded nerves. I've read that it's super clean, they are super polite, and with all these etiquette thing they can't be that bad can they?

ARGH HECK I WANNA GO THERE SO BADLY.

Obligatory Shinjuku picture. Couldn't find a nice Shibuya one.

Buddha Statue at Asakusa

I like the effect the pagodas bring.

Relatively traditional Japanese restaurant. So cool can.

Wahlao their school gate macham not school like that.

Yay clean comfortable Japanese train

Look at the insane number of whatever-you-call-those-machines!

Impossibly high skyscrapers. Hello to tiny windows!

Imperial Gardens picture which I like a lot.

Obligatory food picture for me(:

Cosplay - Zero from Vampire Knight that Agnes showed me.  SO REAL AND HOT RIGHT?!
Can you feel his angst/melancholy omgxzxzxz

TOKYO DISNEYLAND!!
Now I'm not a big fan of Disneyland but ROLLER COASTERS! HAUNTED MANSION! SPACE MOUNTAIN!
OMG I'M GETTING EXCITED JUST THINKING ABOUT THE THRILL RIDES AHAHA

And now.
It's Sushi time!!!

Blowtorched Tuna Nigiri

Mind-blowing close-up AWESOMEEEEEEE I MUST GET SOME OTORO THERE!!

OMGOMGOMG LOOK AT THE RICE MORSELS BARELY CLINGING ON TO EACH OTHER!
GLISTENING PEARL RICE I WANT.

Damn I'm getting hungry now.
TOKYODISNEYLANDCOSPLAYSHIBUYASHRINESGEISHANIHONJINSUSHI HERE I COME!!

Awesome for me that I can get out of this crazy Singapore weather and to a cooler climate of day temperatures around 24° and night temperatures around 19°. Yay to being able to wear warm clothes! Speaking about clothes I'm honestly having a headache over what to wear there. Should I go all-out crazy or should I be more conservative aka Singapore-style?

Anyway I really didn't expect to have another trip with my darlings this year, after been to Taipei last year and me going to Germany for exchange in a year's time. Oh well, things happen. Good things happen that is. Then again this is an extremely budgeted trip so shopping is a no no and we gotta eat cheap. I tore a huge hole out of my bank accounts and is in debt with my mom so I really gotta work super duper hard once I get back. Money issues aside I'm going to have so much fun. Cheap thrills anyone?

I'm buzzing with electricity and I can't exactly express myself in words anymore.

Oh so prettyyy

*brb hyperventilates*

Man, that's awesome!

I totally want to see Takarazuka and the Ghibli museum!

I'm actually excited for you :)

I'd like to see Japan, but I don't eat fish, or meat, or cooked vegetables. I do like plain white rice though, and plain ramen.

14th-Jun-2009 10:04 pm (UTC)
Oh I've heard about the Ghibli museum! It sounds totally awesome but whats the Takarazuka about?

Oh man then what do you eat!
14th-Jun-2009 10:13 pm (UTC)
I eat italian food, american food, and some german food.

takarazuka is a musical troup who put on their own opers/musicals.

Similar to what we would have here as Broadway, but they're more focused on the classical aspect.

14th-Jun-2009 10:15 pm (UTC)
But you said you don't eat fish, meat or cooked vegies! I'm confused haha.
14th-Jun-2009 10:26 pm (UTC)
well, I eat pasta, potatoes, raw veggies, salads, fruits, vegetables, bagels, pizza, french fries, mozzarella sticks (YUM!), plain ramen, brown/white rice (I like brown better), bruschetta, etc.
14th-Jun-2009 10:29 pm (UTC)
Ahh I see now it all makes sense! So you are on mainly carbo/fibre diet huh. Why no protein?
14th-Jun-2009 11:25 pm (UTC)
well, yeah, you're right, hahaha.

I lack in the protein department. i need to figure out some good ways to get protein other than through cheese.

i need to start looking into soy products. i used to like the shirataki noodles, but i haven't gotten them in forever.
14th-Jun-2009 11:27 pm (UTC)
Tofu is delicious. How about vegetarian products? They usually replace meat protein with soy protein.
14th-Jun-2009 09:54 pm (UTC)
what....WHAT?!
WHAT DID YOU SAY JUST FEW HOURS AGO ABOUT NOTHING INTERESTING HAPPENING IN YOUR LIFE?! and now you're telling me you're going to JAPAN?!
GAH! I HATE YOU! lsekjflskjgfdfg I REALLY DO!
14th-Jun-2009 09:54 pm (UTC)

Have tons of fun! Tokyo was BY FAR my favorite city in Japan. How long are you staying?

DEFINITELY give shibuya a visit-- great in the daytime and the night. Also, Tokyo Dome City is HIGHLY underrated. A friend and I sort of stumbled upon its awesomeness when I was tracking down souvenirs. They've got a theme park and everything in there-- not just the dome. :)

And don't worry. Tokyo is NOTHING to be afraid of. The rumors are true-- Japan in general is INCREDIBLY clean, and Tokyo is no exception. You won't find scary yakuza just roaming the streets of Tokyo nowadays, haha. People generally keep to themselves in Japan (unless they're in OMG!!! YOU ARE NOT aSIAN, TIME TO APPROACH AND SPEAK ENGLISH!! mode), ESPECIALLY in Tokyo. You won't get bothered. I literally was only creeped out ONCE in Tokyo... and it was by some weird French dudes!

So, yeah, Tokyo is INCREDIBLY safe. The people there are friendly if you approach them. Nothing to worry about, they're used to tourists. A word about transportation though-- trains in Tokyo can be PAAAAAAAAAAACKED. WATCH OUT during rush hour (~6 PM) and when it gets late (past 11 PM; the trains stop running around 12:30/1 AM in Tokyo, if I'm recalling that correctly). On my second trip to Tokyo, I ended up in a salaryman SANDWICh. Not cool at all. I almost landed on this guy's lap because people were falling all over the place. If you get on a train like that, you literally have NO personal space whatsoever. NONE. But sometimes it's inevitable.

ANYWAY! Sorry for the HUGE RAMBLE, but I LOVE Tokyo, and just wanted to ease your fears about visiting, haha. You'll have a great time, I'm sure. (And if you have any other questions, don't be afraid to ask! :3)
15th-Jun-2009 04:36 am (UTC)
I'll be there till the 23rd! ((:

Is admission to Tokyo Dome free? Any fun and cheap stuff to do there that you recommend?

I know! HARRO~ Haha yeah I read your journal and I'm hoping those late-night creepy men are probably rare I guess?

Oh oh I wanna ask about the packed trains! You are referring to the subways right? Anyway in the event that we get caught in the peak hours is it true that outrages of modesty occur when you get caught in a salaryman sandwich?? Another thing about Japan I find creepy. HAHA!

Thanks for the huge ramble actually! You are providing me with vital info girl!
15th-Jun-2009 02:19 pm (UTC)
Very cool!

Well, Tokyo Dome City =/= Tokyo Dome. The Dome holds events and concerts and whatnot-- that's not free. But outside the dome, there's Tokyo Dome city and LaQua, its Amusement parks/shopping areas. The shopping areas are free, clearly, but the amusement park will cost you either 4000 or 5000 yen for a day pass, but if you go for a night pass (you can buy it after either 4 or 5 PM, I can't remember exactly, sorry), it's cheaper-- maybe 3000 yen, if I'm remembering that right.

CHEAP stuff in Tokyo is hard to come by. It's an expensive city, haha. Asakusa is free if you're into temples and shrines, the Ueno zoo admission was pretty cheap, admission to the gardens of the Imperial Palace is free. In general, Shibuya and Harajuku can be reaaaaally entertaining, even if you're just walking around and shopping. Shibuya, Harajuku, and Akihabara have the most "colorful" people wandering around, haha. Be warned, though, Harajuku is REALLY toted as a big fashion place (like to find Lolita fashion, that type of stuff), but it can be REALLY ordinary. Both times I went, it was a Sunday (the recommended day to go), and there are A FEW people all dolled up and walking around-- but that's it. The first time I went, it was a bit more lively-- there were "Free Hugs" Gothic Lolitas standing around by the famous bridge, and more people walking around in crazy styles, but honestly, don't go expecting a lot. I found more people dressed up in Lolita/maid outfits in Akihabara, more "gyaru" types in Shibuya and Shinjuku. Harajuku's still fun-- just because there's SO MANY PEOPLE packed onto its tiny shopping streets, but it's not the fashion mecca that's usually advertised. So, yeah, those three are fun for people-watching and just... enjoying Tokyo.

(BTW, IF YOU'RE WALKING AROUND ANYWHERE IN TOKYO AND SEE A PLACE CALLED CHOCO-CRO (or Cafe St. Marc), GO EAT AT ONE. Oh man, I miss Choco-cro so much. They're basically warm croissants with chocolate melted inside (they come in different flavors and varieties, too-- like mango coconut for summer, or some crazy strawberry/cream thing-- ALL delicious), and it's just ASDFGH YUMMM. *__* This came to mind only because I first discovered Choco-cro in Harajuku, haha.)

And yeah, it's the subways. You'll either be taking JR lines or Tokyo metro while you're there. You don't have to pick one or the other the whole time, don't worry, haha. JUST BE AWARE that inside the train stations, there are two subway systems going on, and make sure to check you're getting on the right one (they all go to the same places, but at different costs). My friend and I accidentally bought a Tokyo Metro ticket and got on a JR train. When we got there, we couldn't get our tickets through the gates (Well, I did; an error popped up but I ignored it completely and walked on through, but my friend went and asked the station manager about it, and we ended up having to pay for a new ticket -_-;; ... if it happens, I'd recommend ... just GOGOGO. I ALMOST got away with it. And if anyone stops you, play the confused foreigner card, haha. Tickets are cheap, anyway).
And honestly, if you mean like groping and stuff on the packed trains, it physically CANNOT happen when you're in a salaryman sandwich (at least of the magnitude that I was in, haha). I mean it when I say NO ONE CAN EVEN MOVE. Your hands are stuck where they are. You're absolutely PRESSED into the next person, but no one really gives a shit. Just another day, ho-hum. People fall all over the place because it's literally... a human sandwich holding everyone up, and not everyone's good at balancing on a moving train, haha.

I'm super jealous. I hope you have an awesome time in Japan. I know I said this before, but I'll say it again just to make sure you don't forget: Take a lot of photos! :))

Speaking of traveling, I might be booking flights and train tickets to some weird communist countries in a few days. Maybe I should just go to Japan too. damn. :P
15th-Jun-2009 02:57 pm (UTC)
LOL WEIRD COMMUNIST COUNTRY! Which one are you going? Are you going to come to Singapore?
16th-Jun-2009 09:44 pm (UTC)
HAha.. I might be doing Paris to Hong Kong by train. :P

Singapore would be nice, I must say.

Instead of Hong Kong I was thinking of ending the trip in Tokyo... but I probably don'T have enough money for that. :P
15th-Jun-2009 09:16 am (UTC)
So jealous! I was in Tokyo (and hakone) last summer and it's incredible place. if you just can, hit the tokyo tower. You can see the whole city up there, it's just breath taking, especially when it's getting dark and the lights are lit up. I'm normally afraid of heights but it was so awesome I forgot to be terrified lmao.

And Tokyo is definitely the safest & cleanest place to travel. I traveled alone in metro a lot, even at night time and everything went smoothly even tho my Japanese skillz are limited to a handfull of words.

And Disneyland is the GREATEST PLACE EVER. Especially their light parade and big thunder mountain and splash mountain and and and. I wanna go. :(
15th-Jun-2009 03:17 pm (UTC)
Whoa it's that safe?? I'm rest assured now. Blame on my silly nerves haha!

Aww man I wish I can ship you to disney with me! You just returned from London?
15th-Jun-2009 07:51 pm (UTC)
Aww, it's normal to get nervous if you go to a different country. It'd be weird if you WEREN'T nervous, haha.

Yeah, it was ok place but that's about it. :/ Now I really want to visit Singapore.
28th-Jun-2009 06:59 pm (UTC)
Come visit dear! I'll be waiting for you here(: Your next trip is soon or next year?
15th-Jun-2009 12:57 pm (UTC)
OMG I AM JEALOUS. :O :O :O Japan is the awesomest place in the world! Even the rush-hour subway crush. OMG.
15th-Jun-2009 03:19 pm (UTC)
Yeah man! Have you been there before! I'm so excited I can't think straight lol.
16th-Jun-2009 01:58 pm (UTC)
No I haven't! Which is whai I'm so jealous right now. LOL, I can imagine.
15th-Jun-2009 05:42 pm (UTC)
